David Bromley
was born in Sheffield England in 1960 and arrived in Australia in 1964. After many years of living and working in Adelaide, he now works and resides in Melbourne.
David has exhibited constantly throughout Australia for more than a decade and has in this time had over forty solo exhibitions. David is currently concentrating on two seemingly contrasting
areas - the "Boys Own" or childrens/adolescents adventure series and the female nude". Based on his love of Warhol's work (in particular his portrait and figure work) David persevered
with his work on the female nude. His aim is to represent the female form in a way that parallels the sexy, contemporary fashion and photographic magazines.
He has not and will not stop working on the "children's/adolescent adventure" paintings as they are important to him as an artist. David says that in finding another arena to
work in he feels that he can bring new eyes to his previous main body of work. Time spent on the nudes makes his time spent on the children's adventure work seem fresh and visa versa. Working
on two different perspectives he feels helps breathe new life into each approach.
The year 2000 brought a stream of strong interest from overseas - culminating in exhibitions in Singapore, Paris, Tokyo and London. A London exhibition resulted in an offer of representation
in New York. David has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2008, 2004 and 2000 and 1999, and continues to be in demand as a portraitist. He has also been listed twice as one of the 50 most collectible
artists in Australia by Australian Art Collector magazine.
