Hill Smith Gallery was established in 1982 by Director Sam Hill-Smith, in the Adelaide CBD. HSG has forged a reputation for excellence and professionalism in the representation of exemplary art practitioners. Committed in its role as a leading arts space, Hill Smith Gallery seeks to introduce discerning collectors to exceptional artists and their work.
The gallery’s represented artists’ work demonstrate a thematic and technical cohesion inherent to their individual art practices; acknowledges the legacy of art history; and reflects an intelligent and unique interpretation of a particular subject. Genres represented within the programme include: painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, works on paper and 3D printed objects.
The gallery’s premises affords 2 separate exhibiting spaces. The gallery’s exhibition programme comprises some 12 curated exhibitions per calendar year, in addition to an ‘emerging artist program’.
Many of the gallery’s artists’ works have been collected by leading national institutions and appear in notable corporate collections. In addition, works by selected represented artists have been placed in numerous international collections.
Alongside the gallery’s participation in the annual SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival since its inception, the gallery has also consistently participated in national art fairs.
